Saw this on Kia’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Apparently it’s a hybrid? Doesn’t look too terrible, either. Just odd because it’s the first time I’ve ever heard of it. Did this slip under the radar for anyone else?

Apparently it’s a competitor for the likes of the Prius V and Ford C-Max Energi but they gave it some body cladding to make it a “crossover.”

I’ve never heard of it. The name is too close to Nero for my liking? I wonder why they chose that name? Crossover looking Hybrid seems like a good fit for the U.S. market.

It’s named after the Niro Concept from like 3 or 4 or however many years ago. Pretty much just shares the powertrain and a lot of the body cues. But obviously the concept was for REALLY hardcore mall crawling.

The European site helps a lot. Apparently it gets the equivalent of 53 mpg combined with the 18 inch wheels and about 61 mpg combined on the 16 inch wheels. I’m sure the US version will be rated about 10 mpg lower than that.

I was at the media launch at the Chicago Auto Show back in February. It looks pretty good in person as well. They claim it’s a “driver’s hybrid,” which I have my doubts about, but it is a decent looking practical car.
The FP had an article on it right after the launch, but I have heard jack squat about it since.

I’ve seen a few on the road. Actually I’ve probably seen more than a few and not noticed. They are nice in that blue color Kia is using for all of the media, but in gray or black they are pretty anonymous. It is also really hard to tell apart from the Forte hatchback. They are almost identical in size and shape. It’s just a few styling accents on the Niro that are different.

ha, I made that comment in October of 2016, yes it is definitely fully launched now. It fully launched in the first quarter of 2017.
